I'm going on a holiday to Singapore very soon and I've already begun to ask myself the question of "what do I need for an 8 hour flight?" I've been travelling since I was a toddler and growing up I was never really preoccupied with what I needed to bring for a flight (in-flight entertainment was all I needed), but in the recent years I've found that there are quite a few things that I could add to my carry-on that could make my trip a bit more bearable.
My little mesh pouch contains the beauty/skincare essentials I need for the flight. Inside I have:
- Antibacterial wipes (planes are kinda gross, let's be honest)
- Face wipes and a facial spray (for staying fresh)
- Hydrating face mask and/or day cream + eye cream (all that recycled air makes my skin feel parched; samples are perfect for this!)
- Inhaler (I need this wherever I go anyway)
- Toothpaste (I'm not a fan of the airplane toothpaste so I'm bringing my own)
- Smelly stuff (I have the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray to spray on my sleep mask; I'm a bit of a nervous flyer these days)
- Hair tie (cause these babies always get lost when you need them most!)
I also have decided that it would be wise to bring along a large scarf to use as a wrap or as a blanket. I hate using the airplane blankets around my upper body because of the static that it generates. I find it fine for keeping my legs warm but I try not to let it go near my upper body!
I've also brought with me a pimped out sleep mask. I say 'pimped out' because this was actually an old airline sleep mask that I had and I had mom cover it in silk and velvet fabric to make it a bit more lush and aesthetically pleasing. It took her all afternoon but it was so worth it.
I'm using a bag with wheels this time for my carry-on as last year I found that having my laptop in the bag was too much for my shoulders. I'm going to have to keep the bag on the overhead compartment as it will be too big to fit under the seat and I don't really want to be leaving my seat often to get the things I need throughout the flight, so I'm bringing my Longchamp Le Pliage medium tote bag which is convenient and perfect because it folds right up and is easy to store. Before the flight takes off, I'm going to transfer my mesh pouch, my Kindle, phone, passports, etc. in the tote bag which I can store under the seat. I haven't quite decided if I'm going to use it as my handbag for when I travel or if it will stay in my carry-on until the flight…
Finally, I will have my handy charging pouch which contains multiple charging cords and my portable charger.
Hopefully this post has given you some ideas on what to bring with you on a fairly long flight given that we are currently in peak holiday season. Let me know what you like to take with you on your plane trips and I wish you all safe travels!

They're so soothing and the wipes themselves are not abrasive!
