Little Bit Wasteful

It pains me to look at the above photo right now and know that I didn't use up those products as much as I could have. For a while (who am I kidding, this still happens now!) I bought new products regularly without using up what I had. I went through a face mask phase, a foundation phase, and a lip product phase. The Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua foundation stopped working for me after a while; the former became way too dark and my skin reacted to the latter (I'm guessing it's the fragrance… my face went a bit bumpy and itchy). I was really upset after discovering that my skin didn't agree with the CHANEL foundation, after all it's not the cheapest of products… Mind you, I still have it with me because I simply can't bear to throw it away.

With a sensitive face comes sensitive lips. I kid you not when I say that my lips react to most lip products. Currently I'm using Lanolips products for moisturising my lips as they are heavy duty and natural. If I've had something for too long, my lips react to it in such a way that the edge of my lips becomes inflamed, itchy, and sometimes scaly; this is the case with the Maybelline lipstick above. First sign of a reaction and into the bin it goes!

I had to chuck out my Sukin Purifying Facial Masque due to the fact that it's an all natural product and has a shelf life of 6 months. This product doesn't contain and preservatives and so I didn't want to risk anything (with my skin being reactive). I probably used up 3/4 of the pot, so I wasn't too bothered letting it go.

Something also worth mentioning is the expiry date of cosmetic and skincare products. All over the internet you'll find the appropriate time to chuck out your products so I'm not going to harp on about it. It's something that I've been more aware of as I've gotten into beauty blogging. I'm sure we all keep products longer than they're meant to, but just keep the expiry dates in mind just to be safe.

Lately I've been making sure that I use up my products so as to not be wasteful. The cost of these products do add up and it's not a small sum. I've found that there is excitement in using up a product until its last drop and placed in my Empties box. I currently have a few products which I have only a couple of uses left so they will be making an appearance in my next Empties post. In addition, I've put myself on a one month spending ban (possibly longer) on skincare products and makeup products just to make sure I keep to using up what I have.

Do you have any products you regret not having used up? Let me know below!

    1. Aside from the strange reaction I got, it's a wonderful foundation! It's very natural and breathable :)

  2. I always hate wastage, but sometimes you can't help it when something doesn't work. I have a charcoal cleanser from Biore, and it is just so heavily fragranced and cooling that it makes my eyes and my skin burn... but I can't bear to throw it away 3/4 full! Mostly though I try my best to use everything up :) X

    1. I guess this is where research is definitely very important! It'll save us from spending money on products that don't work for us. However, you are right sometimes you can't help it and forcing yourself to use the product can cause all sorts of problems!
