Stila Colour Event 2014

On Saturday I attended Mecca Cosmetica's Stila Colour Event (for those of you living outside Australia, Mecca is our little version of Sephora) featuring Stila's international makeup artist, Ginger Seidensticker. The way the event worked was prior to Saturday, you reserved a chair for one hour by placing a deposit which you can redeem back in products. On the day, one of Mecca's makeup artists and Ginger herself will work with you to create your perfect look. I was lucky enough to have a makeup artist who I had spoken to quite often on my many (many) trips to the shop. I was going out for dinner that night with the boyfriend and wanted something different to my usual purples and greys.

Before makeup was applied, my skin was prepped at Mecca using the REN Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water, the Chantecaille Vital Essence Serum, and the Darphin Hydraskin Light moisturiser. Once I was all prepped and primed, the fun began...

The Products
Grace (Mecca's MUA) and Ginger put together a look using the following Stila products
- One Step Correct primer
- CC Colour Correcting Cream in Fair 01
- Convertible Colour in Magnolia (which has unfortunately been discontinued)
- Eyes Are The Window Shadow Palette in Soul
- Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Stingray
- Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Colour in Medium
- Lip Glaze in Guava
- Mile High Lashes Mascara in Jet Black

The eyeshadow palette and mascara are part of Stila's 20th Anniversary collection, both of which I took home with me on Saturday. My eyelids weren't primed and usually if I skip the priming step, the eye look doesn't really last throughout the night, but I found that it was all still in tact when I got home. I went back for the CC Cream and blush on Monday (I couldn't resist!!!). Prior to the event, I hadn't really dabbled into Stila products, but afterwards I was converted! Their products are of top-notch quality and are reasonably priced. I cannot say enough good things about all of them!

The standout products for me were the mascara (which Ginger informed me did not contain any tar at all, unlike the current bestselling mascara in the world *cough* Benefit *cough) and the CC Cream. The mascara did not budge all night and honestly made my lashes a lot longer and thicker than they normally are, and the CC cream cancelled out any redness that I had on my cheeks, which has always been a huge pet peeve of mine.

Just as an aside, don't you think the mascara bristles look like crab claws?!

The Look
The whole look was very natural and soft. The eyes were soft and sultry with a bit of smoke; the cheeks were natural and neutral; and the lips were glossy and hit with a little bit of colour. On top of using the palette, Ginger decided to use Stila's Jewel Eyeshadow in Amethyst and placed it in the centre of my lids for a little something something. I was so in love with this eye look that I did not want to take it off at the end of the night!

I paired this look with an all-black outfit, wearing a Zara knit dress, tights, high heeled boots, and a leather jacket; romantic with a little bit of badass…

I had so much fun at the Stila Colour Event and it was so great meeting Ginger. She is such has such a bubbly and uplifting personality and took the time to explain which products she chose for you and why. I felt great and I looked great all thanks to the wonderful Ginger!

What are your favourite Stila products? Do you have any recommendations? Let me know!
