My Dream Team of Facial Oils

Over the recent years, facial oils have become popular amongst the beauty community. Companies have brought out both pure oils and a mixture of oils and they haven't gone unnoticed. I started using facial oils about a year ago when I discovered the benefits they could provide my skin, and started with rose hip oil. I have quite an oily T-Zone and was wary at first, but I went with the logic of "if I put the moisture back in, my skin wouldn't need to overcompensate" and I was rewarded with healthy, clear skin. The three oils I'm going to talk about today are my go-to for when my skin freaks out. When my skin goes into meltdown mode, I scale back my skincare routine to include a face wash, an exfoliating toner, an eye cream, and my oils. So really, the three products that you see above are my miracle workers!

The Jojoba Company 100% Natural Australian Jojoba Oil (…what a mouthful) is a recent addition to my arsenal. This wax ester (surprise! It's not actually an oil) contains antioxidants, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and Vitamins A, D, and E. Many acne sufferers turn to jojoba oil due to its similar composition to our body's natural sebum and its anti-bacterial properties. This is what drew me to jojoba oil; I was having a particularly crappy skin week and I almost cried when I saw all the under-the-skin bumps along my jaw and along my forehead. I rushed to the nearest health food shop and purchased this baby and I haven't looked back since. The one thing I dislike about what I bought was the incredibly impractical way the product dispensed - I don't understand why it isn't in a dropper bottle! This just means that you have to be careful of how much force you apply to the pump, but other than that I love it.

The Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is described as an "elixir of pure essential oils" and claims to "visibly restore the appearance of skin by morning" by the Kiehl's website. It contains lavender essential oil (to soothe irritated/inflamed skin and reduce blotchiness), evening primrose oil (for effective skin-barrier repair), and squalane (to moisturise and is found to be 'compatible' with our skin's natural oils) as the key ingredients. I must say, all those key ingredients have worked miracles on my skin. I decided that this was the product for me based on Essiebutton and Zoella's reviews on it, and I haven't looked back. This hasn't left my skincare routine since I bought it earlier this year. My complexion has definitely evened out and this helps with irritation. It doesn't feel greasy upon application; in fact, it's quite silky and lightweight. I will definitely repurchase this when it's all gone.

Finally, my first love - Sukin's Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil. Rose hip oil, like jojoba oil, contains Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, as well as antioxidants, and is known to help repair the skin. The main reason I decided on rose hip oil was because I wanted something to help with my facial redness and sensitive skin and I read that rose hip oil would help. I only noticed the effects a month or so after using the oil religiously with my evening skin care routine, but there was quite a difference. I have also read that rose hip oil helps with reducing pigmentation, and I tend to get hyper pigmentation spots after really bad pimples; I found that they were lightened but not completely erased (which was good enough for me).

For a while, I mixed 2 drops of rose hip oil with 2-3 drops of the Kiehl's elixir and used that on top of my night cream (or on its own). My skin drank this mixture up! If you were to just get one oil, I highly suggest you go for the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate as this bottle of magic targets many areas of skin care at once.

  1. The only facial oil I've used so far is the Josie Maran and I really enjoyed it. I have a sample of the Tarte that I'm going to start using as well. I'll keep that Kiehl's one in mind!

  2. I love facial oils, I've tried jojoba blended with other oils but never on its own. I'm thinking of getting some for oil cleansing! Some of my favourite oils are avocado and argan :) x
