Scalp Troubles Solved?

Aēsop is an Australian brand that specialises in natural skincare and haircare products. Most people know them for their skincare products (particularly the Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque made famous by Essiebutton and ViviannaDoesMakeup) and rightly so, they're amazing! However, their haircare shouldn't be overlooked, after all the brand was founded by hairdressers in Melbourne in 1987.

I've harped on about my skin problems on Tweezers and Tongs, but I've never talked about my hair problems. Well, scalp problems. For as long as I can remember I've suffered from dry and flaking scalp that gets much worse in the winter. I've been embarrassed by it for so long and I've been desperate to control it. For a while I was using the Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo, which I rotated with two other shampoos, and that did control the itchiness and flaking but I recently finished a bottle up and wanted to try something a bit more gentle (especially since I've been colouring my hair and harsh shampoos like the T-Gel can damage the colour).

Enter Aēsop. I came across the Sage & Cedar Scalp Treatment online and it sounded like an answer to my prayers. It contains Rosemary Leaf, Cedarwood Atlas, and Sage Leaf and is meant to be a frequent-use treatment massaged on the scalp and left on for 15 minutes (or overnight, which is what I do). I've used this product a couple of times now and while it has not completely gotten rid of the itchiness/flakiness, it has helped moisturise my scalp and calm it down. It's not a miracle product and I understand that it will take some time to work it's magic so I will persist with this one.

The Calming Shampoo was a product I had not intended on purchasing, that is until the wonderful sales assistant gave me a small sample of it (along with a lot of other products). She said that it would help with the itching and flaking as it's a very gentle shampoo formulated for sensitive, dry, and irritated scalps. It contains sage leaf, chamomile flower, lemon balm, and tea tree oil. In addition, I was told that it will take about a week to really kick into gear and get working. I noticed that when I used it, my scalp did flake a little bit but once the initial dry parts were shed, everything calmed down.

I have high hopes for these two products and I hope that they can replace the harsh T-Gel shampoo!

Have you used any of these products? How did they go for you?
Also, if you suffer from the same scalp problems as I do, what do you do to suppress it? Let me know below!

Update: I have since returned the Sage & Cedar Treatment. I visited my GP so I can know once and for all what I'm dealing with and she diagnosed me with sebborheic dermatitis. I am currently trying out the Paul Mitchell Hair & Scalp Mask which contains tea tree oil, which is supposed to help. I will let you know how I get on with that soon.

  1. I suffer from flaky and itchy scalp as well, and I hate using the Neutrogena T-Gel. I need to try these out! I'm glad they've been helping you!

    1. T-Gel is effective but very harsh. If you do try them out, I hope they work out for you!

    1. Aēsop has some gems in their product line. Also, don't be afraid to try out lesser known products, you never know how great they could be until you try them out!
